45 Listings, 10 Placements, One Night

Event PR

Thelemata drove pre-event press for the American Indian College Fund’s NYC EATSS fundraiser in one of the most competitive media markets in the country.

10 confirmed placements before the event. 330M+ wire distribution reach. 45 event calendar listings. 10 post-event pipeline contacts at NBC News, Bloomberg, EATER, and the New York Times.

THE CLIENT

The American Indian College Fund — known as The College Fund — is the nation’s largest and most comprehensive scholarship-granting organization for Native students. Its annual EATSS (Epicurean Award to Support Scholars) fundraiser brings together leading Indigenous chefs, performers, and artists to raise money for Native students in higher education. The 2026 event was held April 30 at Current at Pier 59, Chelsea Piers, New York City.

THE CHALLENGE

New York City is among the hardest press markets in the world to break into, particularly for a single-night fundraising event. The College Fund needed meaningful editorial coverage — not just calendar listings — to build credibility with donors and stakeholders and demonstrate that the event mattered to the broader cultural conversation around Indigenous excellence, food, and higher education. The ask was concentrated and time-bound: build visible press presence across a competitive market within a fixed event window.

THE STRATEGY

Thelemata mapped the New York press landscape across food, lifestyle, culture, nonprofit, events, and luxury verticals — identifying outlets where EATSS was a genuine editorial fit, not just a reach. The event calendar campaign ran in parallel as a reach multiplier, distributing to platforms with a combined 12.4M+ monthly visitors. Post-event, all warm press relationships were catalogued and handed off for the 2027 cycle.

EXECUTION

Built and deployed individualized outreach pitches to approximately 445 NYC media contacts across food, lifestyle, culture, nonprofit, events, and luxury verticals

Developed and placed editorial features in New York Street Food, 1883 Magazine, Harlem World Magazine, NY Weekly, and Luxury Web Magazine

Secured podcast placements on Speaking of Travel and Where We Land, plus a podcast ad spot on Hot Mess on a Plate

Executed a targeted event calendar distribution campaign landing 45 live listings across global, national, and local platforms

Distributed a press release via EIN Presswire, tracked across 180+ outlets with estimated 330M+ monthly reach through Google News, AP News, and the USA TODAY Network

Drafted social media posts timed to confirmed placements to extend earned media across owned channels

Maintained a live PR tracker documenting all outreach, responses, and confirmed coverage for donor-facing reporting

Identified 10 post-event pipeline contacts — including warm relationships at NBC News, Bloomberg, EATER, and the New York Times — for the 2027 event cycle

RESULTS

10 confirmed placements. 330M+ wire distribution reach. 45 event calendar listings. 12.4M+ combined calendar platform reach.

~445 media contacts reached. ~$28,775 blended AVE. 123,873 NYC-targeted impressions. 10 post-event pipeline contacts.

All editorial placements were live before the April 30 event. The digital coverage built lasting SEO value through editorial backlinks. The documented contact infrastructure gives the College Fund a head start in 2027 with warm relationships already in place at four of New York’s most competitive outlets.

Confirmed placements: New York Street Food (Article), 1883 Magazine (Feature), Harlem World Magazine (Feature), NY Weekly (Article), Luxury Web Magazine (Article), Speaking of Travel (Podcast), Where We Land (Podcast), Hot Mess on a Plate (Podcast Ad Spot), Anne Raso (Social Post), EIN Presswire (Wire Distribution, 330M+ monthly reach).

THE TAKEAWAY

The College Fund brought Thelemata a one-night window and a competitive market. Thelemata delivered documented coverage across editorial, podcast, calendar, and wire channels — before the event, not after. The campaign also built the infrastructure the 2027 cycle will run on. This is what event PR looks like when the work doesn’t stop at launch day.
